Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2025
How To DressApp ("we", "us", or "our") is a weather-based clothing recommendation app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We are committed to handling your data with care and transparency.
1. Who We Are
How To DressApp is operated by an independent developer. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at hello@howtodressapp.com.
2. What Data We Collect
We collect only the minimum data needed to provide the service.
2.1 Data You Provide
- Location — a city name or GPS coordinates you enter or share when requesting a clothing recommendation. This is sent to our server to retrieve weather data for that location and is not linked to your identity.
- Date range and activity — the dates you plan to be outside and the type of activity (e.g. hiking, beach). Used solely to generate your recommendation.
2.2 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
- Search history — your recent searches are stored only on your device so you can revisit past recommendations. We never transmit this to our servers.
- Preferences — unit settings (°C/°F, km/h, etc.) and your chosen plan (Standard, Basic, or Premium) are stored locally.
- Subscription status — your Premium subscription status is verified directly with the App Store / Google Play. We do not store payment information.
2.3 Data Collected Automatically
- API request logs — when you request a recommendation, our server logs the request for operational purposes (e.g., detecting abuse, improving reliability). Logs do not include your identity and are retained for a maximum of 90 days.
3. Advertising and Tracking
How To DressApp offers three plans with different privacy levels:
Standard (Ad-Supported, Free)
We show ads served by Google AdMob. Before any personalized advertising begins, we ask for your explicit consent via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, a GDPR consent form will appear. On iOS, Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt will also appear. You can change your consent at any time in Settings → Plan → Change Plan.
Basic (Privacy First, Free)
We show non-personalized ads only (NPA). No advertising ID, no behavioral tracking, no consent form required. Ads are served contextually by Google AdMob without any cross-app tracking.
Premium (No Ads, Paid)
No ads and no advertising SDKs are initialized. Your data stays entirely on your device and our server during the recommendation request.
For Standard-tier users, Google AdMob may collect:
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android) — only with your consent
- IP address and approximate location
- Device information and app usage data
Google's privacy policy applies to their ad services: policies.google.com/privacy
4. AI Processing
Clothing recommendations are generated by Google Gemini AI. When you request a recommendation, we send your location, date range, activity type, and aggregated historical weather data to Google's Gemini API. This data is processed according to Google's API terms and is not used to train Google's models without consent. No personally identifiable information is included in AI requests.
Google's Gemini API terms: ai.google.dev/terms
5. Weather Data
Weather data is retrieved from a third-party weather data provider. Only geographic coordinates are sent. No personal information about you is transmitted to the weather service.
6. In-App Purchases
Premium subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details. Purchase verification is handled by the respective store platform.
7. Children's Privacy
How To DressApp is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access and portability — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Deletion — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Objection — object to certain types of processing
- Withdraw consent — for advertising, you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → Plan → Change Plan
Since the app does not require account registration and most data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all app data by uninstalling the app. For server-side request logs, contact us at hello@howtodressapp.com.
9. Data Retention
- Server-side request logs: retained for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted
- Device-side data (history, preferences, tier): retained until you uninstall the app or clear app data
- Ad consent choices: managed by Google's UMP SDK; you can reset them via Settings → Plan → Change Plan
10. International Transfers
Our server and third-party services (Google Gemini, Google AdMob, our weather data provider) may process data outside your country of residence. When data is transferred from the EEA or UK, we rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the recipient's adequacy decision.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. For significant changes, we will notify you via an in-app notice.
